Old footage has resurfaced of Harry Potter actor Robbie Coltrane in tears talking about the legacy of the film franchise after the Scots star's death at the age of 72
His agent Belinda Wright announced that the actor passed away on Friday October 14 and leaves behind sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell.
The extraordinary footage, from January this year, shows the Scots legend dabbing tears from his eye while talking fondly about the making of the magical movies in which he played the role of beloved giant Hagrid.
Speaking during HBO Max’s Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts reunion which saw most of the cast reunite, he said emotionally: "It's the end of an era. Ten years of my life. My children have grown up during it.
Robbie, who looked sad, tried to manage a smile as he added: "The legacy of the movies is that my children's generation will show them to their children ... So you could be watching it in 50 year's time, easily ... I'll not be here, sadly ... but Hagrid will, yes."
During the nearly two-hour special, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson spoke of Robbie being full of fun on set as they recalled filming at Warner Bros. studio in Leavesden.
Behind-the-scenes footage from the eight films was also shown throughout the special.
Directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and David Yates, along with stars Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart also spoke for it.
Fans were upset seeing Robbie Coltrane so emotional on the show.
One said: :"I sobbed. Hagrid’s always been a favourite of mine. Robbie Coltrane did such a beautiful job with his character."
Another added: "When Robbie Coltrane said “I won’t be around in 50 years but hagrid will be” #HarryPotter20thAnniversary.
Someone else commented: "Anyone else find the Harry Potter thing quite moving? I love Robbie Coltrane. So many great actors have been part of it. Weird not seeing JK though."
A fourth added: "“People will be watching in 50 years time, yes. I’ll not be here sadly… but Hagrid will.” -Robbie Coltrane, Harry Potter Reunion. Me- SOBBING UNCONTROLLABLY."
And another admitted: " Emotional Robbie coltrane is not something i can mentally deal with right now."
