Robbie Coltrane dead: Rutherglen Harry Potter actor dies aged 72

Robbie Coltrane Harry Potter Hagrid

Beloved Rutherglen actor Robbie Coltrane has passed away at the age of 72, his agent has announced.

The actor was known for beloved roles such as Hagrid in the Harry Potter series and Dr Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald in the crime drama Cracker. He was also in the popular 1980s Scottish TV series Tutti Frutti.

In a statement, his agent Belinda Wright said: "Robbie was a unique talent, sharing the Guinness Book of Records’ Award for winning three consecutive Best Actor BAFTAs for his portrayal of Fitz in Granada TV’s series Cracker in 1994, 1995 and 1996 with Sir Michael Gambon.
