Rob Heffernan has posted a proud family snap as his footballing sensation son Cathal puts pen-to-paper on his AC Milan contract.
Ex Ireland star Stephen Ireland, who played a big role in getting the deal over the line, also features in the snap, in what is an extremely proud day for everyone close to Cathal.
Cathal has signed with the European giants on an initial loan deal with the view to signing permanently in the summer, Cork Beo reports.
The final details of the deal are yet to be revealed but it's believed Cork City - who signed the teen to a contract last summer - will bank a five-figure sum if the deal is made permanent, as per a clause in Heffernan’s contract.
He signed on professional terms last June, enabling the club to benefit financially from any transfer.
Cathal then made his debut in the last game of the season, a 3-0 win over Galway United.
The Rebel Army will also pocket a loan fee, plus future add-ons for first-team and senior international appearances, plus a dividend of any future sale of the defender if he joins the Rossoneri permanently.
The Olympian, brimming with pride tweeted: "Finally it’s official. So proud of you Cathal, this is only the beginning.
"Now it’s time to work."
