Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon smashes entry target as event hits amazing milestone

Rob Burrow has sent a message of thanks to the city of Leeds after the marathon named in his honour reached 10,000 entries. Burrow, whose battle with Motor Neurone Disease has captured worldwide attention, will be among those who take part in the event as he and his friend Kevin Sinfield take part together.

Organisers had set a target of 7,777 entries, a figure put in place to honour Burrow and his legendary career at Leeds Rhinos, where he wore the number seven jersey. However entries have already comfortably surpassed that mark for the event, which takes place on May 14th, 2023.

The route will see entrants start and finish at Headingley Stadium, where Burrow enjoyed a legendary playing career alongside. The route will take in the likes of Woodhouse Moor, Bramhope and Otley.

In a message to those that have entered so far, Burrow said: "I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who signed up to take part in the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. With your support we have already exceeded the initial target of 7,777 runners.

"Ten thousand have now signed up and it's great to see so many people taking on their first marathon. It will great to see the marathon back in Leeds and I'm really looking forward to taking part. My mate Kev will be pushing me around the course and I'm really looking forward to seeing as many of you out there running with your mates too.

"So many people are willing to raise money for MND and the Leeds Hospital Charities and we're so incredibly grateful. Best of luck to everyone with their training and we look forward to seeing you on the starting line."

The marathon is open to all runners of all abilities. People can sign up by heading to the Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All website.
