Roads remain closed as 10ft sinkhole opens up

Roads remain closed in Liverpool after a 10ft sinkhole opened up.

Merseyside Police confirmed they received a call at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, July 5, reporting a large sinkhole had appeared in Kensington. When at the scene, on Beech Street, officers put a cordon around the sinkhole which takes up around half the road.

The sinkhole has led to a number of road closures, including Beech Street between A57 Prescot Road and A5047 Edge Lane and Holly Road in both directions from Beech Street to Lister Road.

Liverpool City Council and United Utilities were then called to take over responsibility. United Utilities confirmed that it is working "closely" with Liverpool council to solve the problem and get the area's water supply back to normal. Last night, they revealed that they identified a burst water main and investigations took place.

The water supply was back working, however, a spokesperson said that the flow "may fluctuate." A spokesperson said said: "The repair is more complex than we first thought, and it's taking our team longer than expected to complete the work.

"All customers should have some supply however this may fluctuate during peak times of the day. Please be assured, our team are doing all they can and hope to have things back to normal as soon as possible. We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing."
