A person has been hit by a train with many Merseyrail services on the line cancelled.
Sefton Local Policing Team said that the incident took place at the unmanned railway crossing near Crescent Road, Birkdale and they have closed the road as a result. The condition of the person involved is not yet known.
National Rail has stated that services between Southport and Hunts Cross will be affected until around 8.30pm. According to travel news service Inrix, railway services are at a stand at Hillside station as emergency services deal with the incident.

Traffic will be diverted along Trafalgar Road and Walmer Road / Cavendish Road. Police have advised people to avoid the area for the rest of the evening.
Services on the Southport line will now start and end at Formby with many others cancelled. Merseyrail has stated that rail replacement buses have also been requested.

- 1813 Southport - Hunts Cross
- 1828 Southport - Hunts Cross
- 1843 Southport - Hunts Cross
- 1921 Hunts Cross - Southport
- 1936 Hunts Cross - Southport
- 1951 Hunts Cross - Southport
British Transport Police and North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
