Road closed and drinkers evacuated after BMW crashes into pub

An Everton pub was evacuated after a BMW crashed into the front of it.

Merseyside Police officers rushed to Heyworth Street at around 8.22pm on Tuesday, December 6, after reports a black BMW had crashed into the front of May Duncan's pub.

Officers closed the road from Breck Road to Hamilton Road as investigation work started. Officers confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the crash was damage only.

Crews from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also attended as the pub was evacuated. People were urged people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an incident on Heyworth Street in Liverpool. Crews were alerted at 20.37 and two fire engines arrived on scene at 20.42.

"On arrival, crews were met with a car having collided with the front of a building, which is severely damaged. This is a single storey extension to a pub.

"The pub extension has been evacuated and Merseyside Police are also on scene. All persons are out of the vehicle.

"A council structural engineer has been requested and the road has been closed. Fire Service personnel have cordoned off the footpath. Please avoid the area.

The BMW was removed from the scene on a recovery truck with pieces of the bodywork and a headlight left on the floor outside the pub. The pub was then boarded up and made safe by a structural engineer.
