Road closed and air ambulance lands as man 'seriously injured' in crash

An air ambulance landed after a man suffered serious injuries in a crash.

Merseyside Police is appealing for information after a serious crash in Southport. Emergency services were called to the junction of Duke Street and Part Street at around 1pm on Monday, March 20.

It was reported there had been a crash between a BMW, Ford Mondeo and a Suzuki motorbike. The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson told the ECHO: "We are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision in Southport this afternoon, Monday 20 March. At around 1pm, emergency services were called to the junction of Duke Street and Part Street to reports of a collision involving a BMW, a Ford Mondeo and a Suzuki motorbike.

"The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, sustained serious injuries which will be assessed. A road closure remains in place while our investigation continues.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident on Duke Street, Southport, on the afternoon of Monday 20th March. Crews were alerted at 13.09 and two fire engines were on scene at 13.13.

"On arrival crews were met with a three-vehicle RTC, comprising of two cars, on all four wheels, and one motorcycle. One casualty was given oxygen therapy by MFRS personnel and conveyed into the care of North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital by Paramedics for further assessment.

"Merseyside Police were also in attendance to assist with traffic management. Crews made the scene safe and left at 14.04."

A spokesperson for the North West Air Ambulance Charity confirmed an H72 was called to a scene in Southport, with it believed to be the crash this afternoon.
