- The Met Office has issued an Amber wind warning for Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, and parts of West Devon ahead of Storm Austen's arrival.
- The storm is expected to bring very strong winds and heavy rain across southern UK areas late on Thursday and into Friday, accompanied by a wider Yellow wind warning.
- The RNLI has urged the public to exercise caution along the coast due to expected large waves, severe winds, and hazardous sea conditions.
- RNLI Water Safety Manager Ross Macleod advised anyone who gets into trouble in the water to follow the Float to Live technique to regain control of their breathing.
- Bystanders who see someone in danger are advised not to enter the water, but instead to call 999 or 112 for the Coastguard and throw the person a buoyant item.
