Riverside light show heralds summit start

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has kicked off a "Vijit Chao Phraya" night-time light show at six prominent riverside locations along the Chao Phraya River to welcome the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) 2022 summit.

The event is jointly organised by agencies such as Bangkok City Hall and the Royal Thai Navy. It is in keeping with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha call to highlight the country's culture, comprising food, film, fashion, fighting and festivals.

The event lasts until Nov 27 and people can enjoy the night-time illuminations, light shows, projection mapping displays and cultural performances without charge. The night time activities are also designed to boost the take-up of dinner cruises, boat tours, hotels and riverside restaurant tables.

At the start of the route, the Rama VIII Bridge has been decorated with lights and will host light and laser performances at 7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm and 9.30 pm.

Next, video mapping displays are presented on Wichai Prasit Fort to tell the story of the Chao Phraya River at 7.15pm, 7.45pm, 8.15pm, 8.45pm, 9.15pm, and 9.45pm.

The fort will display a special lighting effects performance on Nov 17, 18, 19, 26 and 27.

Wat Kalayanamit will show traditional nang yai shadow puppets and contemporary cultural performances telling the story of the river, Thai culture and wisdom.

This show will be performed on Nov 17, 18, 19, 26 and 27 at 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

People can also enjoy night-time illuminations and a sound show at Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge each evening at 7.15pm, 7.45pm, 8.15pm, 8.45pm, 9.15pm and 9.45pm.

River City Bangkok will present projection mapping displays on its façade telling the story of the river and introducing Thailand's soft-power foundations of food, film, fashion, fighting and festivals at 7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm, 8.30pm, 9pm and 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, Iconsiam's light decorations feature solar power energy and offers an iconic multimedia water feature show, which its organisers said is Southeast Asia's longest water dance show, at 6.15pm, 7.15pm, 8.15pm and 9.15pm.
