Rivera says rookie Brian Robinson Jr. is on track to return

Amazingly, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. could just be weeks away from making his NFL debut in Week 5.

Robinson, who was shot twice in an attempted carjacking last month, was placed on the non-football injury list ahead of the season, meaning he would miss at least the first four games.

In the last two weeks, we’ve seen Robinson back on the practice field, working with trainers and riding a stationary bike. Considering what he went through only weeks ago, that’s remarkable.

As Washington plays the Eagles in Week 3, Robinson is eligible to return in Week 5 when the Commanders host the Titans. Could he be on track to return by then?

Head coach Ron Rivera was asked if Robinson was on track to return.

“Yeah,” he answered. “In all honesty, in our hopes without giving you guys a timeline, yes. I mean, we’re liking what we see each time we ramp something up. He’s had no ill effects so far. I know Dr. [James] Andrews will be there. He’s gonna take a look at our guys that we had on that we’ve had on PUP and that we have on injured reserve and get an opportunity to really look at them. Hopefully, we get nothing but good news on everybody.”

It’s notable that Rivera mentioned Dr. James Andrews. Could we also be hearing positive news surrounding defensive end Chase Young soon?

Rivera didn’t say Robinson would be back in Week 5, but he did sound positive that the rookie from Alabama would be back soon.
