River Island has issued a product recall over potentially "toxic" detailing on striped shirts that were sold between March and April this year. Trading Standards shared the recall notice yesterday (April 12) and shoppers who bought the shirts have been urged not to continue wearing them.
A statement on the fashion retailer's website reads: "It has come to our attention that these styles feature decorative embellishment that contains lead in levels that exceed the recommended limit. Lead is toxic and can cause adverse health issues when mouthed for prolonged periods or ingested.
"As customer safety is our highest priority, we are immediately recalling these styles. Please note this recall does not affect any other River Island product with teardrop faux pearl beads."

The shirts were sold both online and in high street stores, according to the recall notice. It can be viewed in full on the Trading Standards website.
Previously the company also recalled its Mini Girl Black - Triple Buckle Ankle Boots, which were sold from October 2020 to January 2021. A separate recall notice on its site advises that the diamante stones are a potential choking hazard for children 36 months and under if they were to loosen.
