Rishi Sunak vs Liz Truss - who would be the better Prime Minister for the North East?

The battle to succeed Boris Johnson as the next UK Prime Minister has been whittled down to just two Conservative candidates - in the form of Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss.

One of these will be elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party - and in turn take on Johnson's old position in Downing Street from next month.

The two are set to take part in a series of TV debates across Great Britain, including right here in the North East, as they both plead their case to fellow Tories for their nod when the voting process takes place.

Hexham MP Guy Opperman has thrown his weight behind former chancellor Sunak's bid to become the new leader of the Tory Party, alongside Darlington MP, Peter Gibson who also has faith. On the other hand, Bishop Auckland MP, Dehenna Davison, has reportedly backed the Foreign Secretary to get the job done.
