Rishi Sunak appeared to demote the allies of his predecessor and reward his own supporters as he ploughed on with a ministerial shake-up.
The new Prime Minister continued his reshuffle with the announcement of several junior appointments on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan and Chris Philp, who had both sat around the cabinet table under Liz Truss, accepted less prominent Government roles.
There were new jobs for Sunak loyalists Alex Chalk, Lucy Frazer and Helen Whately, while former long-serving schools minister Nick Gibb returned to the Department for Education.
Chair of the Education Committee and prominent Truss critic Robert Halfon was also promoted.
Mr Sunak is continuing to field criticism over reinstating Suella Braverman as Home Secretary on Tuesday when he announced his new cabinet.
The PM has ripped up his predecessor’s growth plan and pushed back the highly-anticipated fiscal statement from October 31 to November 17.
He also reinstated the fracking ban in England that was scrapped by Ms Truss, and was reviewing key spending commitments, including the pensions triple lock and rising benefits in line with inflation.
The PM has also brushed off opposition demands for an immediate general election and pledged to rebuild the public finances in a “fair and compassionate” way to rectify the “mistakes” of the former, short lived premiership.
