Rise in life expectancy might have slowed down in the past decades as a recent study has found that today's children may be unlikely to live up to 100 years. An analysis that studied lifespan data over three decades from ten countries - Australia, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States was published in the journal Nature Aging.
According to this analysis, female children born in 2019 in these places have a 5.1% chance of reaching 100 years of age, while there is only a 1.8% chance for males. The analysis was done incorporating the period of 1990 to 2019, to avoid the distorting impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
