Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has criticised his old club for sacking Dan Ashworth this week and he wants some players to be treated similarly to the sporting director.
Rio Ferdinand Frustrated With United
Manchester United have been a mess both on and off the field at the start of this season and the sacking of Dan Ashworth this week was the final straw for Rio Ferdinand.
The former United defender was left baffled when Ashworth parted ways with his old club and speaking on his podcast this week, Ferdinand demanded more action from the club.
“I just hope they’re this brutal – as they have been with the staff that have been there for years and they’re culling – with the s*** players that are there.
“If there’s any s*** players that are there, and the ones that have either been there too long and the ones that just ain’t good enough, be as brutal as they’ve been. Get them out quick. And I hope they’re like that.”

Although the six-time Premier League winner didn’t give any specific names of who he would move on from United, Ferdinand’s frustration with the current squad was evident.
Ferdinand has been critical of players such as Marcus Rashford in the past and after it was reported that United could be open to offers for their academy graduate at the end of the season, he could be on the way out soon.
Although he wasn’t too pleased with Ashworth being sacked, Ferdinand was happy with how quick the decision came from the Red Devils.
“For better or worse, at least they’ve made a decision. You look at the things that are going on – I think there’s a lot of noise around the club. Ticket prices are going up, there’s been the laying-off of 250-plus staff. They’re very definitive and it’s very much like, “right, we’re doing this’.”
Manchester United are currently 13th in the Premier League table which is their worst start to a season in over 38 years.
Ruben Amorim’s team faces off with Manchester City in the derby on Sunday and a win against the struggling champions could completely change the mood around Manchester heading into the new year.
