Rio Ferdinand tells Thomas Tuchel his 'impeccable' Chelsea undroppable ahead of Club World Cup

Rio Ferdinand thinks that Edouard Mendy is ranked amongst the top three goalkeepers in the world at the moment.

The Senegal shot stopper helped his country to win their first ever Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday with victory over Egypt in a tense final in Cameroon.

The game went to penalties following a 120-minute stalemate, with Senegal being the better of the two sides from 12 yards, winning 4-2.

Mendy stopped Mohanad Lasheen with a superb save to his right to set the stage for Liverpool man Sadio Mane. The winger kept his nerves to slot home, resulting in Senegal's first-ever triumph in the competition.

The Chelsea man was subsequently crowned as the best goalkeeper at the tournament, meaning he's now added another individual award to his cabinet, shortly after winning FIFA's Best men's goalkeeper of the year in January.

With that in mind, Ferdinand thinks he's ranked amongst the top goalkeepers in world football right now.

“If I was picking a goalkeeper right now in the world, I think my top three keepers I would pick, and maybe people say you’re biased because of the Premier League, but it would be Mendy, Ederson, and on form right now [David] De Gea,” Ferdinand said on the Vibe With Five podcast.

“Mendy stands out for me, especially in this last year he’s been impeccable.”

The Senegal star will now join up with his Blues teammates in Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup this week as he looks to win another major honour with his club following their success in the Champions League last May.
