Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is hopeful he could be awarded another Premier League winner's medal if Manchester City are found guilty of breaching a collection of financial rules.
It was announced on Monday morning that City had been charged by the Premier League over numerous breaches following a four-year investigation into the club's financial status, with the charges dating back to 2009. The Etihad Stadium outfit are alleged to have breached league rules requiring provision 'in utmost good faith' of 'accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club's financial position'.
If the club is found guilty of the charges brought against them, it is possible that they could face a points deduction, expulsion from the Premier League or even have previous titles stripped away from them. In the event of City being stripped of their title victories, it would see the honour given to the club that finished as runners-up to them in each of the impacted seasons.

City won their first-ever Premier League crown in 2011/12, pipping United to the prize in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season. They won it on goal difference by beating QPR 3-2, courtesy of Sergio Aguero's iconic winner.
Therefore, if they are found guilty of the charges they have been presented with and it is decided that they are to be stripped of their previous title wins, United would be crowned as the 2011/12 Premier League champions, meaning Ferdinand would add an extra winner's medal to his collection. And he could not resist making a tongue-in-cheek comment about it in his latest podcast episode.
Ferdinand, speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, said: "I just want to see how this Man City situation pans out as I could have another league title at this rate! I could have seven and not six."
Though the allegations that City are facing are serious, an outcome is not expected to be reached quickly.
"I think it is going to take a lot longer for the result to be officially put forward and for all of the decisions to be made, if there is going to be points taken off or league titles deducted," added Ferdinand. "I think it is going to drag on, this one; it isn't going to be overnight at all. It will go on for a while."
