Rio Ferdinand didn't change anything in house after first wife's death when Kate moved in

Rio Ferdinand has admitted he didn't change anything in the house when Kate moved in after he lost his first wife to cancer.

Rebecca tragically died in 2015 aged 34, leaving behind children Lorenz, Tate and Tia.

Kate, 31, married the former footballer, 44, in 2019 and is expecting the couple's second baby.

However, when she first moved in with the Ferdinands, the former TOWIE star admits things were "hard".

Speaking on his wife's Blended podcast, Rio said: "You'd met the kids, but we met the kids away from the house – that was a big thing."

Kate continued: "Yeah but it was only when I came here that I thought, 'S**t, this is gonna be hard'."

Rio responded: "And even when you were here and you were probably bumping into things, seeing things from my previous life because I hadn't even changed anything in the house at that point – nothing had changed and the fact that I was bringing you into that...

"I didn't even compute that. I was just in a bubble of 'this is where we're going' and I didn't even think of your feelings – even things like the bathroom; shower gel."

Kate said despite being "really in love" with Rio, she was stunned when she moved in with the Match of the Day pundit.

"Honestly babe, we've had this chat before but you hadn't moved anything so for me," she claimed.

"I stepped into your house and I was like: 'This is completely different to what I thought it was', nothing had been removed of Rebecca's so it was kind of like, all of her stuff was in the same place and I was just stepping in and it was really, really difficult."

Rio apologised to his wife, who then admitted she doubted the couple's relationship when she moved in with the former Man Utd star.

Kate said: "I started to question myself: 'Am I imagining all this? Is this really what I think it is?' because up until that moment of coming to the house I thought we were on the same page and when I came to the house I realised I didn't know what I was letting myself in for."

Rio concluded by criticising himself for 'not realising' how leaving his first wife's belongings in the house would affect his new relationship, admitting he was 'taken over by all sorts of emotions'.

The couple now share son Cree, two and are expecting a daughter later this year.
