Rio Ferdinand has backed Darwin Nunez to become a pivotal figure at the heart of Liverpool 's attack following his strike in the Reds' win over Ajax on Wednesday evening.
The 23-year-old scored his sixth goal for Liverpool as they ran out 3-0 winners in Amsterdam, although Nunez did miss a golden chance to add another to his tally. Roberto Firmino put the ball on a plate for the Uruguayan at the back post, but he hit the post from two yards when it looked harder to miss than score.
However, Nunez made amends as he netted his second goal in his last two appearances, expertly heading home Andy Robertson's corner. It was a terrific effort from the forward, who showed intelligence to lose his marker, and then power to win the ball in the air and guide the ball into the corner of the net.
