A collection of rare Beatles memorabilia, including some of Ringo Starr’s school documents and a portrait of John Lennon painted by Stuart Sutcliffe, has gone up for auction.
Tracks Auctions are hosting the sale, with part of the proceeds from the sale of some items being donated to the Liverpool Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
Lot 42 of the auction includes a Dingle Vale Secondary record card, with Ringo’s personal information and test results along with an ‘Application for Admission of Child’ sheet, which has been handwritten by Ringo himself in pencil. He has written his full name, date of birth, mother and father’s names and nationalities, home address, previous schools, and medical history.
The lot also includes a typed note from A. E. Virr, headmaster of Dingle Vale Secondary School, which Ringo attended after being too unwell to sit the 11-plus in the 1950s. The note details Ringo’s attendance as 83% and describes him as “honest, cheerful and willing, and quite capable of making a satisfactory employee.”

Also included is a handwritten Scholar’s Record Card, which includes Ringo’s name, address and date of birth along with his medical history, interests, and IQ. Two typed letters between Dingle Vale Secondary School and the Royal Liverpool Children’s Hospital, with the latter being dated from August 1954, are also part of the lot, along with three punishment books from the school, in one of which Ringo is mentioned as “misbehaving during PT games”.
A rare portrait of John Lennon by "fifth Beatle" Stuart Sutcliffe, one of John’s friends from the Liverpool College of Art will also be up for sale at the auction. The painting is said to be the only painting that Stuart painted of John and is expected to sell for between £10,000 and £20,000. It was painted by Stuart in around 1961 or early 1962 just before his death in April 1962.
Stuart was a member of the Beatles but left after a short time to continue studying at the Hamburg College of Art.
The auction also includes an autographed first pressing of Love Me Do single from Dawson’s Music shop in Widnes, released on October 5, 1962. The signatures of the band are written on the back of the single in blue ballpoint pen and it is set at a reserve of £12,000.
The auction started today June 9 and is set to continue until 6pm on June 18., which can be found here.
