Rihanna shares son’s ‘disappointed’ reaction to not be attending the Oscars with her

Rihanna has quipped that her infant son is upset that she is taking his soon-to-be-born sibling to the Oscars instead of him.

The 35-year-old songstress revealed she was pregnant last month during her long-awaited Super Bowl Half-Time show in Arizona.

And now, the Where Have You Been? singer shared rare photos and video of her 10-month-old son, who was born in May last year, watching her music video for Lift Me Up.

The music superstar’s song is nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Original Song category at Sunday’s ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Not only that, but Rihanna will perform her hit, written for Marvel’s blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, at the cinematic event.

Ahead of the performance, the star shared a close-up photograph on social media of her and ASAP Rocky’s son’s face, looking seemingly upset.

Making light of the photo, she captioned the post: “My son when he found out his sibling is going to the Oscars and not him in one week.”

The Barbadian singer also shared a short throwback clip of the little one watching her music video for Lift Me Up on a laptop, as he sat on her lap at a dining room table.

Needless to say, the picture triggered an onslaught of supportive comments from fans penning: “He’s so sweet”, “His lil face” and “So cute omg”.

The song has earned Rihanna multiple nominations throughout the 2023 awards season, including a Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.

Rihanna isn’t the only notably name nominated in the category, as Lady Gaga’s Hold My Hand from Top Gun: Maverick has also been recognised.

The Telephone hitmaker won the award in 2019 for her hit Shallow from the film A Star Is Born.

David Byrne's This Life for the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, is nominated alongside Diane Warren's Applause and current frontrunner, Naatu, Naatu from the motion picture RRR.
