Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have revealed the name of their second child a month after his birth.
According to The Blast, who obtained their newborn’s birth certificate, the couple has chosen the name Riot Rose Mayers. The certificate also reveals that the baby was born on August 1 at LA’s Cedars-Sinai Hospital.
The 35-year-old singer turned beauty mogul and the 34-year-old rapper seem to be continuing a naming tradition as both their children’s names start with the letter ‘R’. Their first son, RZA Athelston Mayers, born in May 2022, was named in homage to Wu-Tang Clan star RZA.
The name Riot Rose Mayers may be a reference to A$AP Rocky’s recent track Riot, released in July and featuring Pharrell Williams.
Rihanna revealed her second pregnancy during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show performance in February when she was seen rubbing her baby bump on stage. Her spokesperson confirmed the news shortly after the show.
Following the recent birth of their son, Entertainment Tonight said their sources revealed that the couple would “spend the early days of parenthood out of the public eye and won’t make any immediate plans to debut the new baby”.
Rihanna has previously addressed her decision to share images of her eldest son on social media.
She told British Vogue that she posted pictures of RZA with gossip blog Hollywood Unlocked and shared a video of him on TikTok after learning that paparazzi had taken photos of him without her consent.
“It’s the thing you never want to happen,” she told the publication. “I just went straight into protective mode. Like there wasn’t even time for rage.”
She also emphasised the importance of protecting her child’s privacy and how motherhood had given her a new perspective on life.
“You come to have a different respect for moms and dads,” she said.
