Rico Lewis makes Man City vs Liverpool FC prediction following win over Girona

Rico Lewis is anticipating a tough night's work should he be given the nod in Manchester City's Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool next week.

Lewis impressed as City played a friendly against Spanish side Girona on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola's side running out comfortable 2-0 winners. Lewis started at right-back in the win as Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan made their returns to club action following the World Cup.

Goals from De Bruyne and Erling Haaland earned a win which will be their last action before facing Liverpool next Thursday in the Carabao Cup. The fixtures against Liverpool in recent years have become fiercely competitive and Lewis will hope to make another start in that match with Kyle Walker coming back from World Cup duty with England.

After the match, Lewis spoke to City's in-house media, as he explained how he's spent the break from domestic action. "I didn't really get much of a rest, I think I got a week off and then I was in with the U23s," he said.

"We went to Morocco and then obviously we went to Abu Dhabi after that, I didn't get much of a rest so it was okay. I'm not 100 per cent because before the break I wasn't playing every game."

He added when asked about his match fitness: "I feel good, I can play a full 90."

Lewis has played four Premier League matches this season and was also given 85 minutes against Sevilla in the Champions League, with Pep Guardiola clearly a fan of the 18-year-old. He also played 90 minutes against Chelsea in City's last Carabao Cup fixture which could be a sign he may be set to feature against Liverpool on Thursday.

"It's going to be a really good game," he said of the Liverpool match. "It's just a really good test against one of the best teams in the world. For me, I think there could be a chance to play so it would be amazing to play in a game like that."
