Rick Scott Gets High Profile Endorsement in His Bid To Be The Next Senate Majority Leader

Florida Senator Rick Scott continues with his bid to be the next Senate majority leader despite President-elect Donald Trump reportedly calling it "not serious." In this context, he got a new high-profile show of support, this time from his fellow state senator Marco Rubio.

In a brief publication on X on Sunday, Rubio said: !I will be voting for my Florida colleague Rick Scott to be our next Senate GOP leader." The boost adds to what is shaping up as a push by MAGA Republicans to rally behind him, according to a new Axios report.

The outlet detailed that "MAGA media is cranking up pressure on Trump and Republicans to dump the two establishment frontrunners — Sens. John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas — and go with their MAGA choice." "The campaign is gaining substantial steam online," the report added.

Prominent online figures like Charlie Kirk, Tucker Carlson and Benny Johnson publicly endorsed Scott, with the former saying that the "people who just gave Donald Trump a sweeping mandate do not want Thune or Cornyn to lead the US Senate."

On his end, Carlson said: "Rick Scott of Florida is the only candidate who agrees with Donald Trump. Call your senator and demand a public endorsement of Rick Scott." He added there are chances the online campaign will succeed due to the large reach he and others have.

Elon Musk, who played a key role in the Republican campaign, held a poll on X during the weekend about the topic. Scott got almost two thirds of the more than 1 million votes in the survey.

Trump, who could decide the race with an endorsement and did back Scott two years ago, has so far declined to weigh in and rejected the report about him dismissing Scott's bid. "Anyone who says differently is wrong," a campaign spokesperson told Axios last week.

Scott has shown confidence in his chances even though he got just 10 votes in his last bid for leadership. "I'm going to win. And here's why. I've been talking to my Republican colleagues, Guess what? They want change. They know that Donald Trump has a mandate. They want to be part of that mandate. They want to be treated as equals. They want to be part of a team. They want to have a working relationship with the House," Scott said in an interview with Fox Business this week.

"They know I've got a great working relationship with Trump, with Speaker Mike Johnson, they know I'm a business guy, business guys get things done. We create a plan. We work our mission, we measure things, we create teams. That's exactly what we want in the Senate, and that's why I'll be the next majority leader and we're going to get Trump's agenda accomplished," he added.

The GOP has already secured control of the Upper House for the next two years, flipping at least three seats to get at least 53 with two more races yet to be called.
