Richie Sadlier praised by fans for 'honest and amazing' journey to parenthood as he appears on Tommy Tiernan show

RTE pundit Richie Sadlier has been praised by fans for his "honest and amazing" journey to parenthood after years of fertility treatment.

The Dublin former football player appeared on the Tommy Tiernan Show tonight, where he opened up about his new baby son Sam and his and wife Fiona Ward's struggle to conceive. They welcomed their baby son Sam in February.

Speaking to Tommy, Richie said: "I'm only recently at the stage where I can say the phrase 'my son' without crying. Every time I talk about it or think about it in any depth, I kind of get like this.

"When he came out, just all that we gone through, it was just like not that it wasn't worth it or that it didn't hurt. It was just like none of that matters now," added Richie.

He and Tommy chatted about the many struggles facing couples turning to IVF. Richie and Fiona, who married in 2019, had previously decided to speak openly about their fertility journey.

Richie previously said: “I know everyone finds their own way through challenges like this, but we chose to speak openly to friends and family about what we were going through from day one, so we got their support when we needed it and the space when we asked for it.

Viewers immediately flocked to social media to congratulate Richie on his little family and praise him for opening up about their fertility journey. One person wrote on Twitter: "Anyone else feel like having another baby after seeing how proud Richard is of his new baby son. Such a beautiful & gorgeous interview."

A second added: "A great interview with @RichieSadlier IVF, isn't an easy subject to talk about. It's a long, arduous journey, with lots of highs & lows. Such an emotional rollercoaster for everyone involved. Congrats on the new arrival & I wish you all the best for the future."

A third said: "So honest and amazing, the journey to parenthood isn't easy. Congrats Richie."
