Richarlison's Tottenham Hotspur transfer could have knock on effect for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have long been linked with a move for Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin but Richarlison's £60million move to Tottenham Hotspur may scupper those plans. Frank Lampard's side survived with a game to spare last season, with Calvert-Lewin's injury woes playing a big part in their struggles last season.

Arsenal were also reportedly interested in the England international, but their approach for Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus would seemingly rule out a move for the Toffees forward. Everton's financial woes have been well documented and they could still cash in on Calvert-Lewin to ease any of those problems.

However, the £60million windfall from Richarlison's departure is likely to ease those issues for the meantime, making an approach for Calvert-Lewin that little bit harder. Speaking about speculation linking the England striker with a move away from Goodison Park last season, Lampard told the Mail: "He is a fantastic striker, the pedigree of striker that there aren't many around. It's been unfortunate for me, I think, that I haven't had him fit.

"He's had little moments but we know that strikers - particularly out of any position - need runs of games and fitness and confidence. We've never been able to get that for Dominic to be fair to him.

"But yeah, he's a huge player, they are not very common. He is contracted to us, three years left on his contract, and I want to take this club forward and players like Dominic help that.

"I know he hasn't been playing at the minute because he's been getting fit, but now he's fit, so hopefully he will contribute in the last few games for starters and then he's our player. He's a player that would be wanted by clubs because of the level of player he is.

"There are not many strikers out there, they cost a lot of money. I'm not worried about him at all."

Newcastle remain in the hunt for attacking options, but Craig Hope of the Mail claims the Magpies will take stock of their current squad before going again later in the window. It comes after a move for Hugo Ekitike reportedly hit a wall, with the Magpies growing frustrated with negotiations, according to reports.

Howe has also spoken at length about not being impacted by inflated deals for players, after last year's takeover made Newcastle the richest club in world football.
