Richarlison injured vs Southampton as Tottenham dealt Champions League qualification blow

Tottenham attacker Richarlison has suffered an injury setback during Spurs' visit to Southampton on Saturday afternoon. The Brazilian pulled up after just four minutes and was visibly upset as he headed down the tunnel.

He was replaced by Dejan Kulusevski at St Mary's. This comes as a setback for the player as the 25-year-old had started showing some more impressive form for Antonio Conte's side after a hamstring injury plagued his start to the year.

Richarlison was making just his ninth Premier League start for Spurs since arriving for £60million last summer. He is yet to score a league goal for the north Londoners, although his last outing against Nottingham Forest was more fruitful as he made an assist, won a penalty and had a goal of his own disallowed.

Although the extent of Richarlison's injury remains unclear, this could rule him out of Brazil's upcoming international friendly against Morocco on March 25. He was called up to Ramon Menezes' 23-man squad, and was a regular for his national side at the 2022 World Cup, but could now be withdrawn for the upcoming international break.

Tottenham's injury concerns were added to later in the half when Ben Davies also had to be withdrawn after needing treatment. He was replaced by Ivan Perisic 37 minutes into the match.

It was a crazy first-half for injuries on the south coast, as opponents Southampton also had to make two enforced alterations.

Both Saints centre-backs Armel Bella-Kotchap and Jan Bednarek were replaced by Mohammed Salisu and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, respectively, as the game struggled to build momentum due to the numerous stoppages.
