Richarlison had a banana hurled towards him whilst playing for Brazil on Tuesday night.
The Tottenham star has been prolific for his country recently and scored in their friendly against Tunisia, held in the French capital at PSG's Parc des Princes. He celebrated by running towards the corner flag, but as his teammates congratulated him, a banana was tossed onto the pitch.
Richarlison largely ignored the appalling gesture, although Manchester United's Fred kicked the fruit off the pitch and stared into the crowd. Before kick-off Brazil's players had again pushed back against racism as they stood next to a banner that read: "Without our black players, we wouldn't have stars on our shirts."
That was in response to the abuse subjected to teammate Vinicius Jnr, who was targeted in the build-up to Real Madrid's clash with Atletico Madrid earlier this month. Fans gathered outside the Wanda Metropolitano as some chanted: "You are a monkey, Vinicius you are a monkey".
It was the winger who came on for Richarlison in Brazil's 5-1 thrashing of the north African nation. Raphinha grabbed a brace for the Selecao while Neymar and Pedro also found the back of the net.
Following the incident in Paris the Brazilian football confederation posted a statement that read: "Unfortunately, after the action [goal], a banana was thrown on the lawn towards Richarlison, author of the second Brazilian goal. CBF reinforces its position to combat racism and repudiates any prejudiced manifestation."
Richarlison has previously spoken out against racism, stating during his time at Everton : “Racism is something we live with every day. It appears not only in words or in actions but also in disguise.
"It was racism when my friends and I went to play football in my city and someone called me bandit, when I hadn't done anything to deserve that.
“But it’s also racism when people change sidewalks when they see a black man coming in the opposite direction. These are subtle things that show the scale of the problem."
He also claimed: “In Brazil, the population of the peripheries, which is almost entirely black, suffers from this daily."
