Richarlison dealt 'instant justice' for Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham showboating incident

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton says he would have done "exactly what Brennan Johnson did" following Richarlison's keepy-uppy stunt - but says the Tottenham Hotspur man "won't care" about the huge reaction to his showboating.

The Brazilian attacker decided to show off a little bit of skill as the the end of the game approached with the scoreline 2-0 to Spurs. Johnson immediately steamed into him for a foul, much to the delight of the Forest faithful.

Prutton, who made 79 league appearances for the Reds over two spells, says that Richarlison was "crafty" in doing what he did, as it helped wind down the clock. He thinks that the Tottenham star would have known exactly what the end result of his antics would have been.

"I'd have done exactly what Brennan did," Prutton told the Garibaldi Red podcast. "In situations like that, that can happen.

"There's a passage of time where, in theory, you can't do anything about it. In the split second that he does that and the ball bounces away, Brennan is like 'brilliant, this is obviously only going to end one way'.

"In the reaction to this, there's a lot of over-sensitivity about something like this. The old-fashioned, old school way of talking about this is, if someone does this on the pitch, and I would have categorically been told this by managers, if that happens try and get him over the hoardings.

"There is no two ways about it. That is what happens.

"I've watched Richarlison many a time and he's a very good footballer, but there are elements of his game which I don't necessarily agree with, such as the one yesterday.

"He's played enough football in enough places, at enough levels, to know that is what happens. There is a general understanding that that is what happens.

"There's maybe this element that says 'he's surprised this might happen'. No, he's crafty, I'll give him that, he knows exactly what he's doing.

"He's gone down then, and it's a hefty challenge. It's not one that he's injured by, you gone down holding your leg or whatever.

"It's a free hit from Brennan and it is, from a Forest fan's point of view, instant justice for that. I understand Brennan's frustration and Neco Williams.

"Steve has said that 'we don't do that at Forest', and I can't think for one second that it's actively encouraged at Spurs by Antonio Conte. It's just that player, he does things like that and it attracts attention.

"He probably, and it's no disrespect to Nottingham Forest as an entity, won't care. He won't give a flying one about what anyone is saying about him.

"Came on, wonderful assist for Spurs, three points, off back down the M1, thanks, bye."
