Seahawks legend Richard Sherman has decided to retire from the NFL. While Sherm was once the best cornerback on the planet, he hadn’t been himself after the 2019 season when injuries started to take their toll. He only played a total of 10 games over the next two years and was out of the league last season as he began working full-time as a broadcaster for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football games as well as a podcaster.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Sherman said he knew it was time to hang it up when he tried to cover Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a comeback route and his body decided not to go along for the ride.
“DeVonta must’ve run this comeback… I had him under control, I was like, bam, quick jam, easy, had him under control. He must’ve stopped and I tried to stop and my whole groin said, ‘Snap, snap, snap, snap,’ and I said, ‘Whoa, whoa… At that moment I was like yeah, this is probably my last year. I don’t got it for these young dudes right here.”
It’s tough to hear Sherman describe it, but it’s another reminder that the game slows down for nobody.
Fortunately, Sherman’s greatness is not lost on these Seahawks for good. Last year he mended fences with the organization after a long estrangement and has been coaching up Tariq Woolen.
