Richard O'Halloran celebrated his freedom by heading to the Aviva Stadium with his son Ben for Ireland's big win over Wales in the Guinness Six Nations.
O'Halloran had been been prevented from leaving China for almost three years.
He had been working for a Dublin-based aircraft leasing firm when it became involved in a legal dispute with the Chinese authorities, with the latter then banning him from returning to Ireland and his family.
However, last month, the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that his release had been secured.
And after returning to these shores, Richard, along with his son Ben, tagged along to the Six Nations clash on Saturday.
His wife Tara tweeted a lovely snap of the pair at the Aviva, with the caption "My happy boys back together!"
Upon his return to Ireland, Richard said in a statement: "On my arrival back to Ireland, I am making this statement in response to the overwhelming positive number of messages received by my family and myself, since it became apparent yesterday that my exit ban was lifted.
"This is a day of great happiness and emotion as I rejoin Tara, Ben, Amber, Isabella and Scarlett after three years.
"It is also important that I take this opportunity to thank and to express my sincere appreciation, and that of my family, for the incredible support we have received over the past three years."
