He was possibly the inspiration for Alan Partridge and – knowing me, knowing him – Richard Madeley is going to be comedy gold in a new reality show.
The TV host, known for his toe-curling interviewing style, will be a key part of At Home with the Madeleys. The ITV show will focus on Chloe Madeley, daughter of Richard and his wife Judy.
Chloe became a mum in August, when she and her husband, rugby union hero James Haskell, had a daughter. Viewers will see TV royalty Richard and Judy as the doting grandparents helping Chloe, 35, cope.
A TV source said: “Richard Madeley has produced some amusing moments down the years so having cameras in his family home is almost guaranteed to bring more comedy gold to the screen.”
Richard, 67, drew more comparisons to Steve Coogan’s spoof TV host Alan Partridge when he interviewed Gary Lineker on GMB on Tuesday.
He accused the Match of the Day host of comparing the government to the Nazis. Lineker rolled his eyes and told him: “Already you’ve misrepresented what I said.”

Madeley has previously been accused of “talking twaddle” by Mick Lynch after asking the RMT union boss if he was a Marxist.
He also revealed live on TV that Chloe was “a mistake”. And one of his most Partridge-like quotes has to be: “I’ve never met a single woman happy with the way she looks, except Jordan – but I’ve never met her.”
At Home with the Madeleys will be on ITVBe and ITVX.
