Richard Foster swerves Rangers transfer panic button as he insists they are a 'great team' without recruits

Richard Foster insists fans shouldn't be concerned about the lack of summer signings at Rangers - claiming keeping their key players is far more important.

It's been a quiet start to the summer for the Europa League finalists with John Souttar the only arrival so far after agreeing a pre-contract move from Hearts earlier this year. While Antonio Colak appears to be nearing a move if PAOK can find a suitable replacement, keeping Scottish Cup winning squad together appears to be the main target for Gio van Bronckhorst and sporting director Ross Wilson.

Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson and Steven Davis have all agreed to extend their stay at Ibrox for a further season, and former Rangers defender Richard Foster reckons that could be more vital than any summer arrival. The pundit also hopes to see the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Joe Aribo and Borna Barisic remain with the club next term.

He told BBC Sportsound: "I would have been expecting more movement so far. In saying that, so far for Rangers the best thing they have done is keep all their players.

"There has been a lot of talk about Barisic possibly leaving, Morelos leaving, Aribo as well. I think they have done well to keep the players there.

"Goldson staying was a big one for them, so I think that was the first hurdle. The Europa League run was spectacular, so there is a great team there. You don’t need to change too much.

"Every season if you can bring in two or three players who are going to start every week that gives everyone else a shake-up. Players know they can’t rest on their laurels.

"You don’t want to take in squad players. I am not at all bothered that not a lot of teams have signed players, because you want to sign players that are going to threaten to get into your first-team.

"That brings healthy competition. I think Rangers will do a bit of business, but they are obviously waiting to try and get the right people in."
