Richard Foster appointed as new Motherwell head of coaching

Richard Foster is back in Scottish football.

The former Aberdeen, Rangers and St Johnstone defender has been appointed as Motherwell's new head of coaching.

The 37-year-old's work is already underway at Fir Park. He will oversee coaches within the Steelmen's academy at all youth levels.

As well as this role, Foster will be coaching Motherwell's Under-16 team and will also be involved at u18s level too.

A replacement is being sought for Stuart Kettlewell as the club's lead development coach, with the former Ross County man stepping up to become the club's new first team manager.

So Foster will step in with the u18s until a replacement has been recruited.

Foster moved to America last summer to become the assistant manager of USL Championship side Detroit City for the remainder of the 2022 season. He returned to Scotland last month.

On his new job, Foster said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for me at the perfect time.

“Motherwell is renowned for developing young players that go on to have sustained careers within the game and they have some great, young talent coming through with excellent people working here.

“This all makes me feel very fortunate to be given this role and I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Foster began his career at Aberdeen where went on to make over 200 appearances for the Dons.

In his time, he turned out for Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone, Bristol City and Partick Thistle while also being selected for Scotland duty in 2012.
