Richard Dunne slams Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United players after Omonia win

Manchester City legend Richard Dunne has torn into Cristiano Ronaldo and his Manchester United teammates for their display during their 3-2 victory over Omonia last night.

Ronaldo was handed a rare start and struggled to impose himself on the game. Over the course of the 90 minutes, the forward missed a rake of chances and cut a hugely frustrated figure throughout the night. And Omonia almost punished Erik Ten Hag's side, taking a one-goal lead into half-time and scoring a late goal to make it 3-2 with less than five minutes to play.

While United clung on in the end, there were plenty of moments when the game could have been put to bed. On more than one occasion, United players like Antony and Marcus Rashford tried to set Ronaldo up for easy goal chances rather than taking on the shots themselves.

Appearing on Virgin Media afterwards, Dunne tore into the United players for pandering to Ronaldo and trying to keep him happy.

“You’re watching it and you’re thinking ‘Is this his testimonial or what are they doing?’

“You’re getting opportunities. You’re running around goalkeepers and you’ve got a chance to shoot, but he tries to set up Ronaldo. It wasn’t his night anyway.

“There are so many occasions, you’re looking at Rashford who has scored two goals. You’ve got an opportunity for a hat-trick and you’re trying to set up Ronaldo?

“I don’t get it with Man United. They’re not that good, they’re not 4-0 or 5-0 up. They’re still trying to win a game.”
