Edinburgh locals were treated to a surprise appearance from entrepreneur Richard Branson who was in town for the grand opening of Virgin Hotels' new Victoria Street location.
The Virgin founder was joined by a crowd on the Royal Mile, where a six foot mystery tartan box had piqued the interest of passers-by.
It was Branson himself who pushed the button on the box, which saw dancers and bagpiper players appear to entertain the local crowd.
Virgin Red handed out thousands of Virgin Points to lucky locals and tourists in the city to celebrate the launch of the new Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.
More than 200 envelopes containing 500 to 150,000 Virgin Points were handed out. Those lucky enough to get their hands on them have the option to redeem the points for hundreds of rewards.
They can be redeemed on more than 200 items, including stays at the new hotel, flights or even sausage rolls.
