Broadcaster Richard Bacon thanked the NHS for saving his life after sharing a picture from his hospital bed. In 2018 the presenter, born in Mansfield, was taken to Lewisham Hospital, South-East London, and was put into a medically induced coma.
The 47-year-old shared a picture with fans of him in a hospital bed and wrote: "Thanks for everything you did for me 5 years ago today NHS. Thanks to the 40 people at Lewisham who saved me. Especially my consultant Vic Happy 75th. Couldn’t do it* without you (*Live) The NHS treats more than a million people a day. We’ve all got our stories."
As Birmingham Live reports, fans rushed to the comments to share support for Richard. Graham replied: "People saved you, not the institution."

ITV Good Morning Britain regular Richard hit back: "They both did. I don’t think any of the 40 people who saved (when they expected me to die, and was seconds from death) had the kit at home to pull it off."
Cathy Green replied saying: "I am SO grateful for my ceramic and titanium hip. “Installed” by the NHS in December 2019 (timing was everything - “under the wire” b4 coronavirus>covid!) after two years of constant pain and impaired mobility, including limited walking with a stick. These days, no one would know."
Howard typed: "I’m with you on that. 10 years ago I started to get sick. I’m now in hospital every 4 weeks for treatment & without the NHS & their staff I wouldn’t be here, I’d be dead. I’ve see the decline since 2010, I see the struggles of the staff. Constantly being asked to do more with less."
Chris Ryan said: "And just about everyone has a similar story. My mum was born with a severely disfigured foot back in the 30s (pre NHS) which effectively crippled her as her parent couldn't afford to have it tested. The NHS gave her a successful life that would otherwise have been denied her."
"I have had **** health all of my life, and for a number of years my mental suffered too. I was also a mental health nurse for 12 years. I'm glad you're still here Richard, as I too continue to be thankful for the health care I receive," Lisa said.
