Rhod Gilbert issues update to fans following cancer treatment

Welsh comedian and presenter Rhod Gilbert has issued an update to his fans after undergoing cancer treatment. He said he and his family are "optimistic that I will come through this".

Posting on his Facebook page, Rhod said he wanted to "clear up any confusion" and reassure his fans. He explained he had been diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2022 and received treatment from Velindre Cancer Centre and University Hospital of Wales.

Rhod said: "There has been a lot of stuff in the press recently, so I thought I would clear up any confusion; my cancer diagnosis happened earlier this year (it’s not a new development). I have since had surgery, radiotherapy and chemo at Velindre Cancer Centre and UHW, Cardiff."

The 54-year-old also thanked staff at the hospitals and his fans, he said: "Thanks to their tireless dedication and incredible care, and lots of wonderful support from friends, family and you lot, I am recovering well, laughing a lot and feeling happy and positive; we are all optimistic that I will come through this."

Born in Carmarthen, Rhod is hoping to be back on the comedy scene in 2023. He said: "I am making plans for 2023, so watch this space for info on the comedy stuff; there have been a lot of laughs in odd places, so I am not going to be short of material."

Rhod sent "big love" to his fans and finished the update by saying: "Until then, thanks again for your kindness and support. Big love to you all, and Merry Christmas." The comedian's previous work includes hosting DIY SOS, when he became very emotional when looking back at a project of building a new surf centre for children with disabilities at Caswell Bay on Gower.
