Rhod Gilbert is doing a stand-up show in Cardiff and it's this month

Yes, you read that right, our favourite Welsh stand-up star Rhod Gilbert is putting on a show with brand new comedy material this July and it's also for a brilliant cause. Rhod, who has taken some time off this past year while he received treatment for cancer at Velindre, will appear at Cardiff's Glee Club on Sunday, July 23.

The gig will see Rhod host a night of comedy and debut some new material. It's hot on the heels of his Swansea Arena show in May, which saw him complete his unfinished Book of John stand-up tour. A huge supporter of charities, Rhod will be performing this show in aid of Shelter Cymru. Tickets will be released on Wednesday, July 5 at 10am and you can get them from Glee's website, here.

And Rhod's not done with making Cardiff laugh this year either. As part of his Velindre Cancer Centre fundraising campaign for his Atlas Mountains Trek this October, the Carmarthen comic is also doing a show at the Wales Millennium Centre. The show, titled Rhod Gilbert and Friends - Hoof Cancer Right Where it Hurts, is on Sunday, October 1. Tickets for the Velindre patron's show can be bought now, here.

The Morocco trek is the latest in a long line of fundraisers Rhod has led - he's also been to Patagonia, Nepal and Kilimanjaro amongst others, raising thousands of pounds for the centre. It was during his last trek in Cuba, last year, that his cancer symptoms got worse. He told the BBC: "In May [2022], I noticed lumps started popping up in places they shouldn't be. It turns out I've got Stage 4 cancer. I also caught Covid on that walk as well. I came home with cancer and Covid from a Velindre fundraising trek... the irony of that! I went as a Velindre patron and came home as a patient."
