An Italian restaurant replied with a sassy comment when a customer complained their portion sizes “wouldn’t feed a mouse”.
The customers had visited Secret Sicilian on Harborne High Street, Birmingham, and ordered an afternoon tea as part of a work trip.
However after they left they claimed they had to visit Greggs for more food as the portion was not big enough - a claim disputed by the restaurant.
The review in full said: “Not a great experience, we were attending an afternoon tea with work. Don’t know how much we paid for it, but it wasn’t worth it.
“We waited 45 minutes for food, which wouldn’t feed a mouse, the portions were not acceptable. We had to go to Greggs after to fill us up.
“The food was ridiculous to be classed as an afternoon tea.”
The restaurant owner has since responded to the review reported Birmingham Live and defended the prices, noting the customer used a Wowcher coupon.
The owner reiterated the portion “is perfect for two” and added the restaurant is “very generous with the quality as our products are not cheap”.
The response said: “The price reflects the afternoon tea served for the Wowcher offer.
“We are very generous with the quality as our products are not cheap!
“The portion is perfect for two, I am sorry to hear this wasn’t shared equally. We do hope, asides to the food, you had a wonderful experience as the rest of your party.
“It takes a lot of hard work to prepare bigger parties at our small venue, it’s disappointing you did not enjoy this time around, but assure you, our all day menu is suitable for all and would welcome you anytime for dinner with us.”
With a score of 4.0 on Tripadvisor, many customers often leave behind positive reviews.
One recent review said: “Amazing independent restaurant that has a welcoming atmosphere. I was served by the owners of the place and they made me feel great.
“The service was five stars and so were the drinks, the main course, the starters and the desserts.”
Another customer shared their experience and said: “We have been going to this restaurant for little over a year and congratulate the owners on their fantastic restaurant.
“The food is excellent and the relaxed ambience makes it an evening event, not just a quick bite.
“The starters are a perfect beginning to a culinary journey to the delicious mains and decadent desserts. Always a pleasure to dine in this gem of a restaurant.
“The staff are attentive, but not intrusive. They do, however, always make you feel special, which is a true gift.”
