Residents have been told to stay indoors following a huge blaze at a former factory in Glasgow. Firefighters are still tackling the fire at an abandoned building in Springburn, more than 11 hours after they were first called to the scene.
The inferno broke out within the former Promat factory on Petershill Road at roughly 8.20pm yesterday. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed a number of appliances remain in attendance, Glasgow Live reports.
Several road closures are in place and members of the public have been told to avoid the area by police. Nearby residents have also been asked to remain indoors and keep windows closed due to large amount of smoke caused by the blaze.
A SFRS spokesperson said: "We received a call for a fire on Petershill Road at 8:21pm on Wednesday, May 31. We are still in attendance for a well developed fire within a derelict building.
"The building is still alight this morning. We sent four appliances to the scene of the incident."
In a statement last night, Police Scotland confirmed a full investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire.
They said: "The Emergency Services are currently dealing with a fire within a derelict industrial premises in Petershill Road, Springburn, Glasgow. Residents in the area are being advised to remain indoors and keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.
"A number of road closures are in place and the public should avoid the area. The fire was reported shortly before 8.30pm and the cause will be investigated."
