Residents stranded by flooding in Beeston say 'it was like being in the sea'

Residents said it was 'like being in the sea' after heavy rain swamped a Nottinghamshire road. Tia Smith posted this picture on Beeston Updated, with the words - "Nothing to say!! Lol" - after thunderstorms broke over parts of the county on Saturday night, July 8, flooding areas with torrential rain.

Tia, 38, of Chilwell, was stranded in Beeston Social Club with her partner when the storm broke out. She told Nottinghamshire Live the storm, " slowed us down, so we made a run for it to The Hop Pole pub, Beeston. But we were greeted by the tidal wave of water at both ends of Beeston High Road.

"It was like being at the sea, but instead of it being nice, it smelt like sewage water! You needed wellies to get through it!"

Heavy rain lashed down after a weather warning for thunderstorms was issued across Nottinghamshire, with residents told to expect potential flooding, public transport cancellations and road closures. The weather caused problems for drivers, when the A52 westbound was closed between the A6007 Bramcote & the B6003 Bardills, near Stapleford.
