A huge fire has ripped through a property in Glasgow in the early hours of the morning, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky causing "fear around this for many people".
The alarm was raised shortly before 4.30am on Friday January 20, when officers were alerted to reports of a building fire on Forth Street in Pollokshields.
Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, sped to the scene of the blaze, which appears to have taken hold inside premises occupied by Persia Catering Equipment, reports GlasgowLive.
Footage taken at the site, which was shared online, shows bright, orange flames spitting from the roof of the property. Sparks fly from the burning structure which crackles audibly, and debris falls onto the street below.
Other images depict the sad aftermath of the flare-up. The store appears to have been completely ravaged by its intensity as charred furniture and sheets of building material are piled up on top of each other as firefighters look on.
Tabassum Niamat, a local resident, told the Record: "I was passing by the building as my sister's restaurant is across from Bakers Delight (Desi Dhaba), and I know the business owners due to the ongoing work I've done as an elected member of Pollokshields Community Council.
"We have had a disproportionate amount of fires to residential properties and businesses. You can imagine the fear around this for many people but the community always come out to help when it is needed.
"There was also a residential fire on Leslie Street, coincidently it occurred within minutes of the Forth Street Fire. Unrelated yet, so bizarre."
Forth Street was closed at the junction of Maxwell Road and Darnley Street as a result of the inferno, which mercy crews battled to bring under control.
It remains unclear whether the road is now open, and the cause of the fire is not yet known, either. It is believed, however, that no one was hurt in the dramatic event.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.25am on Friday, 20 January, 2023, we were called to a report of a fire at a property on Forth Street, Glasgow.
"There were no reports of any injuries."
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 3.51am on Friday, 20 January to reports of a building fire in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow.
"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's Forth Street, where firefighters were met by a fire within a commercial premises.
"Firefighters extinguished the fire and currently remain on the scene working to ensure the area is made safe. There are no casualties."
