Based on the hit Capcom video game series of the same name, a brand new series of Resident Evil will be released on Netflix in the next week. This isn’t the first adaptation of the horror story, with six films having been produced between 2002 and 2016, finishing with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
Although those films failed to live up to expectations for many fans of the original games, largely down to wholesale changes being made to the source material. This particular series will be split between two timelines, in 2022 and 2036 respectively.
Showrunner Andrew Dabb confirmed the eight-part series will feature familiar characters, containing flashbacks to “things both from the games and from the game timeline". It would appear that Netflix’s stab at adapting Resident Evil will look to blend the horror franchise with fellow sci-fi hit Stranger Things.
