Resident Evil Requiem now inadvertently features an in-game ad for a Half-Life YouTuber thanks to Capcom leaving in a fake website domain without registering it itself

Resident Evil Requiem .

Resident Evil Requiem inadvertently features a Half-Life shoutout as a URL shown in-game has been claimed by a Valve-focused content creator.

As spotted by Twitter user RacconSurvivor (reported on by Automaton), the BSAA computers that Leon can use to save his game during the later part of the game feature a ton of code on the screens when viewed through a scope. Among these characters is newdawn-capcom.com, which will now take you to a website adorning a Steam-styled box with the Half-Life logo in the background.

This Resident Evil site is being used as a virtual business card for YouTube content creator Gabe Follower, who covers Valve with videos about the likes of Counter-Strike 2 and Half-Life 3. When RacconSurvivor posted about this site on Twitter on March 9, they said it leads to nowhere, so clearly this domain has been registered in the time since.

Of course, fake domains are nothing new. Loads of games, shows, and movies make up fake websites that don't really exist. But there are some that take the extra step, such as sitcom How I Met Your Mother, that would pre-emptively create fake websites every time the characters mentioned one. So, someone could see this and reckon Capcom is doing the same, only to find Half-Life-inspired content instead.
