The very first announcement to kick off this year’s Summer Game Fest is a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
The original game, released in 2000, followed the Redfield siblings after the events of Resident Evil 2 as they investigate the Umbrella Corporation. Now, the spin-off game is getting the remake treatment that Capcom has made its specialty throughout the last few years. A Code Veronica remake has been the subject of rumors and leaks for a very long time now, so while the announcement isn’t exactly surprising, it is very welcome news nonetheless.
Summer Game Fest debuts Code Veronica remake
The Code Veronica trailer began slowly with an elderly lady showing an unseen woman into a Parisian apartment – eerily brought to life in shades of grey and green – to look for her brother. After the elderly woman leaves, a knock on the door leads the unseen woman to be grabbed by a masked figure.
This unseen woman is, of course, Claire Redfield, last seen in the RE remake timeline in Resident Evil 2 alongside rookie cop Leon Kennedy as the pair escaped Raccoon City. Now, her spin off adventure is receiving the remake treatment that’s treated fans to so many excellent games in recent years.
The final shot of the trailer reveals the hordes of undead she’ll have to deal with alongside her brother as they escape isolated infected locations, which hints to the remake sticking to the more survival horror-focused feel of the original.
When does Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake come out?
As revealed in the announcement trailer, the remake of Code Veronica is set to release sometime in 2027. In the past, Resident Evil games tend to come out earlier in the year, so players might not have to wait as long as they think to play Code Veronica.
Platforms haven’t been confirmed yet, but players can assume it will be widely available on the same platforms as Resident Evil 9 (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC).
