Washington: Beech leaf disease is a new threat to the ecosystems of North American woods. Since its discovery in northern Ohio in 2012, it has spread to twelve other US states and Canadian provinces. The damaged and dying trees were first identified only on the basis of their symptoms, which included black banding along the leaf veins and shrivelled, leathery leaves.
