Renewable energy company RES, one of the early entrants into the Grimsby offshore wind cluster, has acquired a leading Spanish operations and maintenance provider.
The company has bought IM FutuRe, taking on contracts to provide services to 1,400 turbines in Spain and Portugal. The 1.5GW addition takes RES’ operatinal asset portfolio to more than 12GW globally.
A team of 167 will transfer across to the Hertfordshire headquartered business, and the deal follows on from buy-outs in Australia and Denmark.

RES retains a strong presence in North East Lincolnshire, with offices at the Fish Market Renewables Site on Wharncliffe Road, one of nine UK bases. It had forged a strategic alliance with Rix Renewables, a Grimsby based division of Hull's JR Rix & Sons and is one of several firms behind the Humber Renewables Awards.
Marco Perona, RES Support Services’ chief executive, said: “RES has ambitious growth plans for its global Support Services business and continues to implement our strategy, entering new segments and markets. The acquisition of IM FutuRe will strengthen RES’ overall position in wind energy services combining opportunities and additional clients with enhanced capabilities. As we establish ourselves in Spain and Portugal, we will expand our O&M service provision to cover solar and storage, and asset management across all technologies.”
Im FutuRE is described as a specialist in blade inspection and repair, with more than 2,000 having been worked on in the past three years. Clients include Iberdrola, EDPR, Naturgy, EnergieKontor and Olivento.
José Antonio Riveiro, general manager at IM FutuRe, “Becoming part of RES allows us to bring an even broader range of services and solutions to our customers; and provides exciting growth opportunities for our people.”
RES has also signed two new asset management agreements with Octopus Energy Generation for the Crossdykes and Cumberhead wind farms in Scotland. Both agreements will see RES provide technical, commercial and financial asset management for each site.
Located in Dumfries and Galloway, the 48MW Crossdykes has been operational since 2021 and features 10 Nordex turbines. The project was acquired by Octopus Energy Generation on behalf of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust and the Sky fund in 2022. Cumberhead, currently under construction, is situated in South Lanarkshire. Once installed it will have a capacity of 50MW.
