Reports OpenAI breakthrough 'could threaten humanity' - Tech & Science Daily

The drama around OpenAI continued on Thursday as Reuters reported that staff at the tech firm had warned the company’s board about super-intelligent AI known as artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Reuters reported that staff researchers at OpenAI wrote a letter to the board of directors warning of a powerful artificial intelligence discovery that they said could threaten humanity.

According to Reuters one of its sources said, on condition of anonymity, that the model, reportedly called ‘Q*’ is able to solve certain mathematical problems, making researchers optimistic about its future success.

In the UK, research suggests a third of Brits are ‘in the dark’ about Vitamin D supplementation over the winter, and why it is so important.

A survey by the Health and Food Supplements Information Service (HSIS) has found that 55% of UK adults are not aware of the official advice to take a supplement from October to March.

In news from the University of Chicago, a nutrient found in beef and dairy products has been shown to help fight cancer.

Trans-vaccenic acid (TVA) is a type of fatty acid found in things like beef, lamb, and dairy products, and has been shown to help immune cells invade tumours and destroy cancer cells.

The findings, published in the journal Nature, also showed cancer patients with higher levels of TVA circulating in the blood responded better to immunotherapy treatment.

Amazon has created eight free courses designed to teach people how to use AI.

The company’s 'AI Ready' initiative aims to train 2 million people in artificial intelligence by 2025.

Included in the eight courses are guides on how to give effective prompts when using generative AI tools like Dall-e or Midjourney, as well as courses on building language models and converting speech to text.
